Thursday, 06 May 2010: The pass percentage of the second year pre-university examination held in March this year has gone up by 6.2 points when compared to the previous year, as 3,10,950 of the 6,31,075 students who appeared for the exams passed.
Announcing the results here on Thursday, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Vishweshwar Hedge Kageri said the pass percentage of 2009 was 43.07 as against this year's 49.27.
As usual, girls have performed better than boys, registering a pass percentage of 57.45 as against boys' 42.42.
Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada districts secured top three positions by registering pass percentage of 89.43, 88.93 and 88.93 respectively.
Raichur, Koppal, and Yadgir districts are in the last three positions with a pass percentage of 43.29, 41.70 and 33.47 respectively.
A total of 2,734 students secured 100 out of 100 marks in the following subjects: 539 students in physics, 513 in mathematics, 367 in statistics, 366 in accountancy, 336 in business studies, 229 in electronics, and 211 in computer science.
Students of commerce branch registered highest pass percentage of 71.41 as against 66.83 and 53.24 percentage respectively in science and arts branches.
The pass percentage of those who studied in the Kannada medium (fresher) is 54.48 and the English medium 69.34.
Highest marks
While the highest marks scored in science and commerce branch is 588 (98 per cent), it is 563 (93.83 per cent) in Arts stream. Highest marks obtained by students belonging to Schedule Castes in science, commerce and arts branches are 579, 571 and 557 respectively; highest marks by Scheduled Tribe students in science, commerce and arts branches are 571, 563 and 539 respectively.
Pass percentage of students belonging to Schedule Castes and Schedule Tribes is 36.03 and 39.10 respectively.
As many as 13,644 students have secured distinction (85 per cent and above); 1,25,376 secured first class; and 78,303 secured second class. Of the 296 blind candidates appeared for the exams, 144 have cleared the exams, and 731 of 2,144 physically challenged candidates succeeded.
While unaided private PU colleges registered highest pass percentage of 65.20, private PU colleges registered 62.02 percentage and government PU colleges 56.36.
Mr. Kageri said the PU Education Department has opened a helpcentre on its premises in Bangalore for assisting the students to apply for photocopies of answer scripts, re-evaluation and re-totalling. Besides, these services are also available in all BangaloreOne centres.
While May 15 is the last date to apply for photocopies of answer scripts, May 22 to applying for re-evaluation and re-totalling.
Supplementary
The supplementary examination for the second year PU will be held from June 28 to July 7 for which the last date to pay the examination fee and submit application forms is May 22.
Mr. Kageri said the establishment of PU Examination Board on the lines of SSLC Examination Board was in the process as announced in the Budget and hopefully the PU exam to be held in 2011 will be conducted by the Board.
