Refresher course for teachers
Bangalore:The Manipal Life Sciences Centre (MLSC), a constituent of Manipal University, will organise a two-week refresher course for teachers on cell and molecular biology techniques here from January 23.
The course is sponsored by the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore; the National Academy of Sciences-India, Allahabad; the Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi; and TIFAC-CORE in Pharmacogenomics at Manipal University. The participants, who were teachers at the graduate and postgraduate level, would be trained in basic and advanced techniques in molecular biology, cell biology, cytogenetics, plant biotechnology, biophysics, and bioinformatics.
Twenty-five participants from across the country would get hands-on training in addition to the opportunity to interact with eminent scientists, including those from the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics, Hyderabad; Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore; Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad; and Fisheries College, Mangalore, the release said.
The participants would be able to explore the principle and working mechanisms of advanced techniques such as flow cytometry, mass spectrometry, microarray, and DNA sequencing, a press release said.
