Bangaslore: The St. Agnes College in Bendoor is known for its ‘Agnesium', a museum that has various collectibles from the past. However, the college also has a zoology museum.
Apart from the students of St Agnes, students of other colleges and schools in Mangalore also visit the museum, said a staff member of the Zoology Department of the college. The zoo has specimen from vertebrates and invertebrates. The collection has a human embryo and a human skeleton, which many students find fascinating, said the staff member. It has a complete cobra skeleton. There is a collection of seashells from the beaches in Mangalore and many shells have been identified and labelled accordingly.
One cupboard houses a set of animal skins, including that of a leopard. There are at least two turtle carapaces (shell) that have been mounted at the entrance of the laboratories.
The highlight of the museum is the skeleton of a whale that was found many years ago on the beach in Ullal. The skeleton is mounted on the ceiling and can be seen clearly if one looks up standing in the well of the stairs next to the museum.
The museum also has wooden models of dinosaurs.
