Students opt for core branches
  • 414 opt for Electronics and Communication
  • Counselling extended to speed up the process
Bangalore: Three days into the engineering seat selection process, and the focus continues to remain on Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Computer Science Engineering (CSE), with these two branches emerging the hot favourites of the day.

Of the 1,292 students who appeared for counselling at the Karnataka Examinations Authority premises and four other centres across the State, 414 opted for ECE and 226 for CSE. Mechanical engineering, another core branch, finished a close third with 197 students opting for it. Other popular branches of engineering such as Civil Engineering and the once sought-after Information Sciences lagged behind with 55 and 115 students opting for it. Several other more-specialised branches remained untouched even in leading colleges.
On Saturday, those ranked between 4,801 and 6,400 will select seats in all the centres. The counselling schedule has been extended to Saturday in an attempt to fast-track the counselling process. As of Day Three, most branches in leading colleges were all filled.

Anuja Sheshadri, a resident of Mysore, went home disappointed because she did not get her desired branch in a good college. “I am not interested in Information Sciences. But I am sure that the brand value of a college is more important for the future. So I have settled for the IS branch in R.V.C.E.,” she said. However, her classmate and friend Anvesh T., was elated because he got the seat of his choice in J.S.S. Mysore.

“I am delighted that I will be studying in my hometown,” he said.

The counselling was more-or-less on schedule and technical glitches were few and far between. “We have been able to get over the technical glitches that we faced last year. This year's counselling process has been a far smoother experience,” a KEA official told The Hindu.
