Bijapur: Minister for Large- and Medium-scale Industries and district in-charge Minister Murugesh Nirani has urged the Karnataka State Women's University (KSWU) Vice-Chancellor Geeta Bali to submit a proposal for funds required for development activities.
He was speaking after inaugurating the bio-diesel park on KSWU's new campus “Jnanshakti”, 8 km from here, on Saturday.

Mr. Nirani promised that the matter would be taken up with Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and steps would be taken to release funds.
Development
Mr. Nirani said a meeting of all elected representatives of Bijapur district, the Deputy Commissioner, the Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat and other officers had been convened on July 15 to chalk out plans for the overall development of the district. Short-term and long-term development projects would be discussed at the meeting, he added.

To encourage the youth from rural areas to take up self-employment, the State Government was launching programme, “Udyamiyagi” from Bijapur. The programme would provide assistance to those who were ready to start their own businesses, he said.

A total of 28 companies wanted to start operations in Bijapur and Bagalkot districts. All of them had signed agreements during the Global Investors Meet in Bangalore recently, assuring investments of over Rs. 65,000 crore in the twin districts and jobs for about 75,000 people. As a first step, the Denim Company would soon begin its textile unit in the Bijapur industrial area, he said.

On the bio-diesel park on the KSWU campus, Mr. Nirani said the unit would not only produce bio-diesel products but also train farmers, and take up research in the field.

Ramesh Jigajinagi, MP, Appasaheb Pattanshetty, MLA, Deputy Commissioner (in-charge) Jiddimani and zilla panchayat Chief Executive Officer K.H. Kaknur were present.
