Maheshappa named Vice-Chancellor of VTU

Bangalore: H. Maheshappa, Principal of Cambridge Institute of Technology, K.R. Puram, Bangalore, has been appointed as new Vice-Chancellor of the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belgaum. He will succeed incumbent P.H. Kincha.

Dr. Maheshappa, 51, hails from Nittur village, Harihar taluk, Davangere district. He has about 25 years of teaching experience. He obtained his B.E. degree from UBDT College of Engineering, Davangere, M.E. from University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering, Bangalore, and Ph.D. in mechanical designing from Bangalore University.
He was the founder Special Officer, in-charge of the examinations, of the VTU when it was founded in 1998.

Before joining Cambridge Institute of Technology, he had served in R.V. College of Engineering, Reva Institute of Technology, PES Institute of Technology and Don Bosco Institute of Technology.

He is the fellow of World Academy of Productivity Science, Canada.

Dr. Maheshappa told The Hindu that the VTU had no teaching staff of its own even after 12 years of its existence and he would like to see that the university had its own teaching and non-teaching staff instead of the present practice of appointment on deputation or contract basis.
