Diploma course in theatre studies to start on July 1
Rangayana is offering it in association with KSOU
- Selected students will get monthly stipend along with free board and lodging
- After one year, students will have to undergo two-year professional acting expertise training
Mysore: The long-cherished dream of the Nataka Karnataka Rangayana to start a one-year diploma course in theatre studies has finally realised.
The repertory, in association with the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU), will commence the course on July 1.
Inauguration
The inauguration programme of the course will be held on Wednesday at Bhoomigeeta on Kalamandira premises. The former Director of Rangayana Chidambara Rao Jambe will be inaugurating the programme. Vice-Chancellor of the KSOU K.S. Rangappa and Director of Rangayana Lingadevaru Halemane will be the chief guests at the programme, according to a press release from Rangayana.
Mareppa Mareppa Dasa, noted folk singer of Yelbugra, will give a performance on the occasion.
Applications have already been invited from eligible candidate for the course. Selected students should get admitted before Wednesday, the release added.
The selected students will get monthly stipend along with free board and lodging during the course period. After one year, students will have to undergo professional acting expertise training for two years, for which period they will be given a consolidated honorarium. The KSOU would honour them with a ‘Professional Expertise Certificate' after completion of the course, the release said.
The course is aimed at training those interested in theatre and making a career in the field. Rangayana is holding discussions with the KSOU to conduct the course even in its Dharwad unit. The KSOU has constituted a committee of experts to examine the infrastructural facility available in Dharwad to start the course, the release added.
