AICTE nod for 14 colleges in State
Bangalore: The AICTE has recommended for approval at least 14 new colleges, offering engineering and pharmacy courses, for 2010-11 in State.
A total of 26 new colleges have been approved in the Kerala-Karnataka region. While 17 of the 138 colleges that had applied were granted permission during the first round of surprise inspections earlier this month, nine more have been recommended for approval after the appeal committee revisited the cases. These committees that verified claims of new institutions comprised academics and architects from the IISc. and NITK Surathkal.
Last week, the engineering admission process was postponed indefinitely owing to lack of AICTE clearance for as many as 178 engineering institutions. The council is now involved in last-ditch efforts to complete the process of clearing the 700-odd applications it has received from professional colleges, a key AICTE official told The Hindu.
