A movement against addiction to be launched in colleges
  • Task force to support deaddiction to be set up
  • De-addiction awareness programmes likely
Sirsi: The Chairman of Karnataka State Temperance Board, Sachidanand Hegde, has said that the board and the Karnataka State Law University have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to launch a movement and to form a task force to support its [board] de-addiction programme.

He told presspersons here on Tuesday that de-addiction awareness programmes would be publicised and implemented in the State through various media and organisations.
He disclosed that it is determined to convert at least two villages in each district of the State into “addiction free” villages during 2010-11.

The board would award Rs. 5,000 in the first year, Rs. 10,000 and Rs, 15,000 in second and third year as token money to self-help groups or Stree Shakti groups of any village for maintaining “addiction free village”, he said.

He said that the State Education Department had agreed to include lessons in textbooks about de-addiction.

Ramakrishna Missions, ISKCON, Stree Shakti and self-help groups will join the venture, he added.

Amarnarayan, Deputy Commissioner, hoped that the district will top the list of “addiction free districts” for which all-out efforts would be made in association with the board.

Board secretary H.B. Dinesh, Assistant Commissioner G. Jagadish, Tahsildar Krishnamurthy H.K. and District Information Officer Manjunath Sullolli were present.
