Inspection of medical colleges soon, says Minister
Hassan: Devi Shetty from Bangalore will inspect the medical colleges in Shimoga, Raichur and Bidar districts before June 20, Minister for Medical Education Ramachandra Gowda has said.
Dr. Shetty is one of the six members appointed to the Medical Council of India (MCI) temporarily, following the dissolution of the MCI on allegations of corruption.
Speaking to presspersons here on Friday, the Minister pointed out that the MCI had not recognised these colleges, which had been set up in 2006. He blamed the delay in granting recognition on the dissolution of the council.
The State Government had released funds to develop infrastructure in six medical colleges — Hassan, Mandya, Shimoga, Raichur, Bidar and Belgaum, Mr. Gowda said.
However, there was a 5 to 6 per cent shortage of staff, he said.
The Government had requested medical colleges in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Maharastra to send their teaching staff on deputation for a year and had announced a walk-in interview to appoint teaching staff, he added.
