UAS seeks approval for appointment of staff
Vice-Chancellor B.V. Patil to take charge on Monday
- Bidar, Gulbarga, Raichur, Bellary, Koppal and Yadgir districts come under varsity's jurisdiction
- State Government to release Rs. 35 crore in phases
Raichur: Special Officer, University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur (UAS-Raichur), B.V. Patil, who was appointed Vice-Chancellor of the university on Friday, said a proposal has been sent to the State Government seeking its approval to fill all the vacant posts to facilitate normal functioning of the university.
Prof. Patil told The Hindu that under the jurisdiction of the UAS, Raichur, are Bidar, Gulbarga, Raichur, Bellary, Koppal and Yadgir districts. The university will become fully functional from the academic year 2010-2011.
The university has sought approval from the Government to appoint 60 teaching staff members and 50 non-teaching staff members. Shortage of staff occurred also because some of them who had been appointed were transferred recently to the University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, he said.
Prof. Patil said the State Government had released Rs. 25 crore in 2008-09 and now it has sanctioned Rs. 35 crore for the academic year 2010-11which will be released in phases.
There are 11 research stations which come under the jurisdiction of the university. They are engaged in research in the direction of helping farmers use modern technology in farming. The Union Government had released Rs. 7 crore in 2009-10 through the Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) for improving infrastructure at many research stations. The university has planned to submit a proposal to the Union Government seeking the release of Rs. 10 crore for the current academic year, he added.
Prof. Patil said he will assume charge on May 3, 2010. And, the State Government will constitute a 21-member administrative committee which will include two MLAs, one MLC, and five progressive farmers, three staff members from the university, a woman social worker, and agriculture graduates.
Academic council and board of studies will also be constituted shortly, Prof. Patil said.
