Minister laments students' lack of interest in research
State-of-the-art Multimedia Production Centre inaugurated

Gulbarga: Higher Education Minister Arvind Limbavali has expressed concern over the lack of interest among students in taking up research and said that this trend needs to be reversed immediately.
Speaking after inaugurating the first state-of-the-art Multimedia Production Centre (MMPC) on the main campus of Gulbarga University here on Monday, Mr. Limbavali said that professors and lecturers should kindle an interest in research among students.
He said that Gulbarga University was among the few in the country to have such a high-end facility and said that the students should make full use of it.
Mr. Limbavalli said that Karnataka was a pioneer in research until a few years ago and had produced several scientists of international repute who were reputed research scholars. The Minister said that Karnataka was the first in South India to implement the UGC pay scales for university teachers. “The teachers should now prod students totake up research.”
Mr. Limbavali distributed laptops to the teaching staff of the university and said that laptops should also be distributed to postgraduate students. He said that the State Government was ready to share the financial burden for that.
The former MP and president of the Kottala Basaveshwar Bharatiya Shikshan Samiti Basavaraj Patil Sedam spoke. Vice-Chancellor of Gulbarga University B.G. Mulimani presided and Registrar S.L. Hiremath welcomed.
