A former High Court judge to inquire into Bangalore University incidents

• I.P. Vashisht Committee report within two months
• Governor to hold a meeting of all Vice-Chancellors

Bangalore: Stating that indiscipline in universities will not be tolerated, Governor and Chancellor of Universities H.R. Bhardwaj on Saturday said the incident involving allegations and counter allegations of Bangalore University would be inquired into by the I.P. Vashisht Committee constituted by him recently.

Mr. Bhardwaj was speaking to reporters after inaugurating the centenary celebrations of the World Guide Movement at the Raj Bhavan here. He said individuals would not be singled out in the inquiry. Initially, it was reported that the inquiry was directed against Registrar M.G. Krishnan and Registrar (Evaluation) M.S. Talwar for their public outburst against Vice-Chancellor N. Prabhu Dev. The allegations against all the three would be inquired into, the Governor said.

He said the committee was expected to submit the report within two months following which it would be forwarded to the Government for action.
Mr. Bhardwaj said if indiscipline was found in universities, he would not hesitate to dismiss even the Vice-Chancellor holding him responsible for the same. He would be convening a meeting of all vice-chancellors in the State soon, he added.

Vice-Chancellors and teachers should be role models to students and society. If they were not disciplined, what would they teach the students?, he wondered.

Earlier, inaugurating the centenary celebrations, Mr. Bhardwaj urged the Government to ensure opening of Scouts and Guides units in every school of the State. He asked the Youth Services and Sports Department to strengthen the Scouts and Guides movement in the State.
Speaking on the occasion, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri said he wanted students to participate in the activities of Scouts and Guides, Seva Dal, National Cadet Corps or the National Service Scheme. A scheme would soon be formulated in this regard, he added.

He would hold a meeting with the Chief Minister regarding transferring the Scouts and Guides wing to his department from the Youth Services Department. To this, Youth and Sports Services Minister Gulihatti D. Shekhar, who was present, said he had no objection to the proposal if the Chief Minister decided so.

The former Minister P.G.R. Sindhia and State Commissioner for Scouts and Guides Kondajji B. Shanmukhappa were present.
