PG medical courses at SDM College from next year

Dharwad: SDM College of Medical Sciences and Hospital, Dharwad, has obtained permission from the Union Government to start postgraduate medical courses from the next academic year.

Speaking to The Hindu, after the inauguration of the Faculty Practice (Special Clinic) at the SDM College of Dental Sciences and Hospital in Dharwad, Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Sri Veerendra Heggade said that based on the recommendation of the Medical Council of India, the Union Government had given permission to set up a superspeciality hospital in Dharwad.
Mr. Heggade said that the superspeciality hospital would help patients from the region to get advanced treatment for various ailments which was hitherto not available in these parts.

Medical Director of SDM College of Medical Sciences and Hospital Niranjankumar said that initially the postgraduate courses would be launched in seven pre-clinical and para-clinical subjects with an intake of 21 seats each. He said the admissions would be through the PGCET as per government norms. He said the advantage of the new facility was that the services of the experienced teaching faculty would be available at the superspeciality hospital.
Health insurance
To a query, Mr. Heggade said that health insurance was the only solution for the health problems of middle class families.

He said the Dharmasthala Gramabhivruddhi Yojane had launched “Sampoorna Suraksha” health insurance scheme for members of below poverty line families and above poverty line families.
