Smt. Saraladevi Satishchandra Agarwal Government First Grade College, which celebrates its silver jubilee on Saturday, stands as a testimony to the fact that that a government-run college can outperform private colleges.
The college, which was established in 1985 to provide higher education to people living in the backward areas in and around the district, is among the few government-run colleges in the State to make use of funds from the University Grants Commission (UGC) for development and improvement of infrastructure.

The management plans to construct an auditorium with the UGC grants. The college has installed about 85 personal computers with funds collected from students and has a well-equipped library.

“Our stress now is on setting up a research centre on which work is under way. Once this research centre is established, our staff will be eligible to guide Ph.D. students,” said Principal B. Ganganna. To commemorate the event, the college plans to organise educational and literary events throughout the year by inviting guest lecturers from across the State.
