Seer inaugurates resource centre
It will function under Manipal Centre for European Studies
Manipal: Sugunendra Tirtha Swamiji of Puttige Math inaugurated the Dvaita Philosophy Resource Centre at the Manipal Centre for European Studies (MCES), a constituent of Manipal University, here on Monday.
The objectives of the centre are to preserve the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of India, open Indian philosophy to European scholars, facilitate spiritual discussions worldwide, and identify and offer solutions to contemporary problems based on spiritual knowledge.
The centre will strive to maintain manuscripts, establish and develop a library, translate works in Sanskrit and other regional languages to English, promote research along with Ph.D. programmes, organise workshops, seminars and form international linkages. To begin with, the centre will translate the 37 major works of Acharya Madhwa into English. The university would form an advisory board to look into Ph.D. programmes shortly. This board would meet twice a year to ensure the growth of this resource centre, he said.
Sri Sugunendra Tirtha lauded Manipal University for starting the centre. “It is befitting that the centre has been started in the birthplace of Dvaita philosophy,” he said.
Scholar Bannanje Govindacharya, director of the MCES Neeta Inamdar and director of the Manipal Centre for Philosophy and Humanities Sundar Sarukkai were present.
