Complaint against varsity

Bangalore: The Karnataka State Biodiversity Board has been urged to conduct an inquiry into the functioning of the University of Agricultural Sciences-Dharwad (UAS-D) and its partners Mahyco and Sathguru with regard to violations of Biological Diversity Act, 2002, in the development of Bt Brinjal.
Pointing out that the university and its partners had used six traditional brinjal varieties and genetically engineered them using a privately owned gene, Vivek Cariappa, member of the State Organic Farming Mission, has urged the board to file criminal charges against them if they violated the Act.

Mr. Cariappa has urged the board to make available information on work related to GE crops.
