Institutions asked to impart citizen-making education
Judge tells aspiring lawyers to master the art of argument-delivery

Hubli: High Court Judge Subhas Adi has said that most institutions have failed to produce true citizens, which is why they need to sit down and think of a future course of action.
Inaugurating the 12th S.C. Javali Memorial Moot Court Competition organised by the University College of Law here on Saturday, Mr. Adi called upon the law graduates to be true professionals.
Platform
He said moot court competitions provided a platform for law graduates to learn the art of presenting arguments, which was an integral part of a lawyer's profession. He asked the aspiring lawyers to be honest, humble and hardworking, as clients reposed immense faith in their abilities.
Presiding over the inaugural ceremony, Vice-Chancellor of Karnatak University S.K. Saidapur said moot court competitions were designed to help students hone their professional skills.
As many as 24 teams from across the country participated in the competition. Principal of the host college C.S. Patil welcomed the gathering.
Commitment
The Academic Staff College of the Karnatak University organised a two-day workshop for college principals in Dharwad.
Inaugurating the workshop on Saturday, Prof. Saidapur said concern and commitment were the basic requirements for a successful teacher. “A good teacher can make an individual a better person,” he said and stressed the need for making teaching interesting.
Presiding over the function, columnist Gururaj Karajagi said making a difference in students' lives was more important than just being a teacher. Director of the college Meena R. Chandawarkar welcomed the gathering.

The KLE Society's Gurusiddappa Kotambri Law College, in association with the P.C. Jabin Science College, conducted a legal literacy programme in Bammasamudra village last week.
Inaugurating the programme, First Additional District and Sessions Judge B.S. Gouda spoke about the role of the judiciary in addressing various social problems. Judicial Magistrate First Class (Hubli) S.I. Kumar and Second Additional Civil Judge J.V. Vijayanand delivered lectures. Principal G.B. Patil presided over the function.
Winners
Also, students of KLE Society's English Medium School, Manjunathnagar, Hubli, Ritesh Belavatagi, Panchaksha S. Kallimani and Nitish Belavatagi won prizes in the national-level Karate championship organised at Udupi recently.
