KSOU may be developed on IGNOU model
Mysore: The professionalism of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) in running courses may be adopted in the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) to bring correspondence courses under distance education mode on a par with regular courses of conventional universities.
Disclosing this to presspersons here, KSOU Vice-Chancellor K.S. Rangappa said that the functioning of IGNOU had come in for appreciation, and its programmes, especially doctoral programmes, were respected. “We, as the State open university, are keen to develop it on the lines of IGNOU to be on top among the open universities.”
With growing demand for KSOU courses and number of students touching 1 lakh this year from 5,000 in 1996, the KSOU had set in motion changes and providing better facilities, Dr. Rangappa said.
“Only open universities can take higher education to 25 per cent of the population by 2020,” he said.
