Students get a taste of astronomy

Mysore: Students of degree colleges from Mysore, Mandya, Chamarajanagar and Hassan districts attended a two-day State-level astronomy programme held here on Friday and Saturday.

Speaking after inaugurating the programme on Friday, Vice-Chancellor of University of Mysore V.G. Talawar said the study of astronomy had undergone a major change following the discovery of the telescope by Galileo. Writer V.S.S. Shastry of Kolar displayed several models of telescopes and delivered a lecture.
T.K. Umesh, Chairman, Department of Physics, University of Mysore, presided over the inaugural function. C.B. Ramachandra, principal, Yuvaraja’s College, was the guest of honour.

The programme was jointly organised by the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology, Bangalore, the University of Mysore, Mysore and the Rashtriya Vigyan Evam Prodyogiki Sanchar Parishad.
