Kharge for another medical college in Gulbarga

Gulbarga: Union Minister for Labour and Employment M. Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday urged Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa to sanction a Government Medical College in Gulbarga to fully utilise the facilities available in the existing Government Hospital and the 500-bed new hospital coming up in the city.
Easy access
The Union Minister said having one more medical college in addition to two private medical colleges — Mahadevappa Rampure Medical College and the Khaja Banda Nawaz Institute of Medical Sciences — would only help in easier access to the merited students from the poor sections of society to the medical education.
Precedents
He said that there were precedents of districts like Dakshina Kannada having more number of colleges and serving the people and the State Government should take this into consideration and sanction a medical college for Gulbarga district also. “Even smaller districts like Davangere and others are having two medical colleges,” he said.
