Varsity recommends honorary doctorate degrees for five
- Heggade, Savadatti, Bhairappa, Joshi and Visveshwar Bhat selected
- It is to mark the diamond jubilee of Karnatak University
Dharwad: Karnatak University has proposed five eminent personalities, including Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari D. Veerendra Heggade, for the award of honorary doctorate degrees to mark its diamond jubilee year of establishment.
M.I. Savadatti (science), S.L. Bhairappa (literature), M.M. Joshi (social service) and Visveshwar Bhat (journalism) are the other personalities proposed for the honour. The academic council meeting of the university chaired by Vice-Chancellor S.K. Saidapur approved these names and decided to forward the same for approval by the syndicate.
Addressing the meeting, Prof. Saidapur said that the university had decided to award honorary doctorate degrees to five personalities to mark its diamond jubilee. Twenty names were proposed for the honour and of them, five had been shortlisted, he said.
Prof. Saidapur said that once the syndicate approved the list, it would be sent to the Governor for approval.
The convocation of the university would be held on February 8. The former Chief Justice of India M.N. Venkatachalaiah would deliver the convocation address, he said.
