Management students hit the road

Charged up: Students of Alliance Business School on their awareness creation mission in Bangalore.

Bangalore: For students of the Alliance Business School, located at Anekal on Bangalore’s outskirts, a casual look at the energy and water crisis in areas around their college led to a larger mission. Today, this team of soon-to-be MBA graduates spends their spare time chasing larger social goals.
Swapping this mission with usual student recreations like watching a movie or “chilling out”, they roam around the streets of Bangalore distributing pamphlets, staging skits and putting up posters to create awareness on the need to conserve water and energy.

Titled ‘Power Water Audit’, the initiative aims at getting together households in residential areas and explaining how to conserve water, power and fuel, and why this is critical to the sustenance of the ecosystem. “We students are cocooned inside our residential campus and we don’t face this issue. But reality is different. Students like us, instead of hanging out in pubs and parties on weekends, can spend time to make a difference,” says Sushma Gowda, a final year student of the institution.

With her group of seven members, all MBA students, she has planned a weekend routine that includes varied awareness-building drives. The team has already covered areas such as HSR Layout, Anekal area, Vijayanagar and Uttarahalli. Ms. Gowda hopes they will be able to take it across the city, and then launch this small mission into a state-wide campaign.
