College to wind up celebrations

Udupi: The valedictory of the golden jubilee celebrations of Sri Bhuvanendra College will be held at Karkala in Udupi district from January 20 to 26.

Ramdas M. Pai, Chancellor of Manipal University, told presspersons here on Saturday that the college was the second one to have been established by the Academy of General Education in 1960. It offered both pre-university and degree courses.
It was the first college to have a training centre for Yakshagana. It was conducting classes in light music and photography. It was a pioneer in organising literary activities. To mark the golden jubilee celebrations, the alumni association had constructed an indoor stadium at a cost of Rs. 1 crore, which had been named after the first principal of the college, K. Damodara Kini. It would be inaugurated on January 23. A special postal stamp would be released to commemorate the occasion, he said.
