Education system should be need-based: Deshpande

Hubli: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president R.V. Deshpande has said that the present education system had to be remodelled into a more practical and need-based system.
Inaugurating the ninth graduation ceremony of MBA and MA Journalism students of the Institute of Business Management and Research (IBMR) here on Sunday, he said the country required value-added human resource to meet the global challenge and for that to happen a change in education system was a must.

Elaborating on the importance of management, he said in the competitive world use of technology without proper management was of no use.

N.S. Ramswamy, Founder-Director of IIM-Bangalore, said that management should become instrument for social change. “In order to make use of available resources in optimum and sustainable way to serve mankind, the young managers have to retain values and rewrite rules of the business,” he said.

Prof. Ramaswamy said the aim of the modern managers should be to give more and take less from society. Naganna, director of Department of Management Studies, Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Technology, Bangalore, said knowledge had become critical and if the budding managers wanted to have life-long employability, then they should have insatiable thirst to learn new things and adapt themselves.

H.N.L.N. Simha, vice-president, Strategic Electronics Centre, Larsen and Tubro Ltd, Bangalore, said today’s world threw open several challenges and also ample opportunities to win as well.

Director of IBMR Shantilal Jain presided.

As many as 159 students were awarded various degrees and diplomas in management and 15 students were conferred degrees and diplomas in mass communication and journalism.
