Mangalore: Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha K. Rahman Khan on Wednesday called upon Muslims not to consider themselves a minority but as the second largest community in the country.
“This will remove the feeling of being weak and instil confidence among Muslims to work for nation building,” he said at the valedictory of the platinum jubilee celebrations of Badriya group of institutions here.
If Muslims continue to contribute towards the growth of society then the community would soon be free from being looked at suspiciously. This would also help to remove misunderstandings, he said.
He said that to empower society Muslims should first empower themselves. This could be achieved by obtaining higher education.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman of Administrative Reforms Commission and former Chief Minister M. Veerappa Moily said that educational institutions should prepare the students for life by shaping their minds. Referring to the examples of Hellen Keller and Stephen Hawking he said that education should build confidence in people.
Mayor Ganesh Hosabettu released a souvenir of the platinum jubilee celebrations titled “Arivu”. President of Muslim Educational Association B. Ahmed Haji Mohideen was felicitated on the occasion.
