"Two years on, they still wait for degree certificates"

Students of Seshadripuram College of 2007-08 batch have put their plans on hold
  • ‘College principal is in touch with the university over the issue’
  • All degree certificates of 2007-08 academic year have been sent to the colleges: Registrar
Bangalore: They studied hard, wrote examinations, passed with flying colours, and some even landed plush jobs. All this was close to two years ago. However, this batch of students, who graduated during the 2007-08 academic year from Seshadripuram College, has not yet received convocation/degree certificates.

Padmini M.S., a B.Com graduate, said that all her plans have been put on hold at the moment. “All my plans to study abroad have been postponed because of this. I cannot understand the delay in the release of our certificates by Bangalore University,” she said.
Many students of B.Com, B.Sc. and BBM streams have been running from pillar to post for their certificates. Several students said that approaching the officials concerned was of no use. . They said that their peers from other city colleges had already received their certificates.

“Every week, at least one of us goes to the college to inquire about the status of certificates.

However, the college officials keep assuring us that the certificates would be issued soon. But how long can we wait? Our plans for higher studies have been put on hold,” said a disgruntled Ajay Kumar P., a B.Com graduate.

Srikanth Prasad, another B.Com graduate, is in between jobs. “I am in a piquant position. I find it hard to explain to prospective employers why I am yet to receive my degree certificate. Neither the college authorities nor the university officials are explaining the inordinate delay,” he said.

Roshan R., a B.Com graduate; Ramesh, a BBM graduate; and Guru Dutt, a B.Sc. graduate, are also troubled over the same issue. “I have applied for an MBA correspondence course from a prominent university. The university has been urging me to submit my degree certificate and I am beginning to feel as if I am under their scanner,” said Roshan.

Wooday P. Krishna, honorary general secretary of Seshadripuram Education Trust, said that the college principal is in touch with the university over the issue. “We have little control in this and are as helpless as the students themselves. It is not just the issue of degree certificates; some have not even received their marks cards ,” he said.

However, S.K. Lakshman, Registrar (Evaluation), Bangalore University, claimed that all degree certificates of the 2007-08 academic year had been sent to the respective colleges. “It is not possible that all students of a particular college have not received the certificates. Some may have not received them due to small issues like marks difference or the like,” he maintained.

The students, who have been hit hard for no fault of theirs, have this to say, “All we want is the degree certificate, something that we have worked hard for. We should not be made to suffer like this.”
