Finance + outsourcing
A programme designed to help meet the need for trained BPO professionals
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), in association with Accenture, has started a Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Diploma programme in Finance and Accounting. The aim is to nurture talent for India’s outsourcing industry by providing comprehensive training in BPO processes.
It is targeted at undergraduate and graduate students from Tier-1 to Tier-4 cities and will be available to more than one million students across India via IGNOU’s extensive network. IGNOU, at present, has 62 regional centres and 2,053 study centres across the country.
“We have leveraged the expertise of Accenture to develop the course content and train teachers. IGNOU owns the delivery of the content across 25 cities and in 43 programme centres in the first phase. I am confident that this academia-industry collaboration will create huge employment opportunities for those who complete the programme,” said V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice-Chancellor, IGNOU.
“We are delighted to collaborate with IGNOU. Our combined efforts will go a long way in supporting the national agenda of skill development to enhance employability of India’s young workforce,” said Pankaj Vaish, managing director of Accenture’s Delivery Centre Network for BPO.
The six-month programme will focus on building skills of students with 10+2 (minimum of 50 per cent aggregate marks with English as a compulsory subject) or Bachelor’s degree and above.
Applicants must pass a written test in English communication and quantitative ability that will be conducted from February 7 to 15 in 18 centres. On-the-spot admissions will be offered from February 7 to 15 to those who meet the eligibility criteria and pass the test. The last date for payment of admission fees is February 17.
IGNOU has worked closely with Accenture to develop the course and its deployment strategy. The Diploma programme incorporates a blend of theory and practical courses, designed by academicians, Accenture, BPO training organisations and e-learning organisations, to provide students with a comprehensive learning model.
Through formal training of counsellors/faculty trained by Accenture and industry experts, combined with ‘on-the-job’ practice scenarios in the form of e-Learning and textbooks, the programme brings additional focus and recognition to critical delivery skills across the BPO industry.
Students who complete the programme will be eligible to apply for employment with Accenture and other BPO companies.
Subsequently, diploma programmes will be offered in human resources, category management, customer contact, insurance, banking, health care, pharmaceuticals, engineering services, and equity research and capital markets.
